GEORGETOWN -- A Port of Georgetown-based energy company has exported its first shipment of wood briquettes, a renewable energy source, to Europe. Carolina-Pacific hosted its first ship call and sent 5,000 tons of its product to Scandinavia. |

COLUMBIA -- Agri-Tech Producers announced Wednesday that it will work with Cate Street Capital of Portsmouth, N.H., to produce equipment for torrefaction, a process for creation of renewable energy “nuggets.” The first processing machine, which is expected to be set up in South Carolina, should be operational near the end of the third quarter of 2010. |

COLUMBIA -- Raising South Carolina’s cigarette tax by $1 would bring in $209.4 million in new annual revenue, helping close the state’s budget shortfall while also reducing smoking, according to a national report released Wednesday by a coalition of public health organizations. South Carolina’s tax is currently the lowest in the nation, at seven cents per pack. |
