GREENVILLE -- Terry Xanthos has a message for local high school students. He says even average students can go on to do great things. Although a "good, but not great student" while in high school in Greenville County, Xanthos graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in international economics. Now he is the co-founder and head of a company that has developed high anti-oxidant fruit juices.

Offering a mixed bag of tax reform Wednesday, Gov. Mark Sanford proposed a flat income tax rate with a 50% cut for those who forego deductions. The governor also wants a 30-cent tax increase on a pack of cigarettes.

BLUFFTON -- Paper giant Union Camp sold the last of its forests in 2006, and the trees that weren't clear cut for development are now largely in the hands of conservation trusts, land owning families and developers. And while intensive tree harvesting in the county may be a thing of the past, a state tax benefit still gives the owners north of the Broad River a tax break of $4,314,656 in 2007 for 49,324 acres of timber.

MYRTLE BEACH -- A flight to Myrtle Beach from Atlanta was late nearly nine out of 10 times in September, giving it the second-worst track record in the nation, according to government numbers released Monday. Flight 4822 from Atlanta to Myrtle Beach - a Delta flight operated by Atlantic Southeast Airlines - was late 89.66 percent of the time in September, according to a monthly report released by the Department of Transportation.
