GREENVILLE -- The S.C. State Housing Finance and Development Authority will decide next month whether to award tax credits for eight multi-family developments proposed for the Upstate. About 50 projects around the state are being considered for the 2008 low-income housing income tax credit program.

COLUMBIA -- The sagging construction industry continues to tug on South Carolina’s economy by eliminating jobs. The construction industry dropped another 3,200 jobs in June, causing the monthly unemployment rate to reach 6.2%, the S.C. Employment Security Commission reported. That’s a slight improvement from May’s 6.5% unemployment, a two-year high.

MAULDIN -- On July 8, the city’s Planning and Economic Development Committee tabled an amendment to the business license ordinance that would require all contractors working in Mauldin to display identification on their vehicles and carry a copy of their business license for inspection upon demand.

COLUMBIA -- An Atlanta developer Tuesday broke ground for a 17-story, $57 million office tower at the high-powered corner of Main and Gervais streets across from the State House. The Gervais & Main tower, being built by Holder Properties, will house three of Columbia’s premier firms: Edens & Avant real estate development and management company, National Bank of South Carolina and McNair law firm.
