GREENVILLE -- The current economic slowdown has not deterred out-of-state investors from buying into the Greenville retail market. A local real estate company said the county is, instead, seeing more investment from outside the market and the trend is expected to continue.

COLUMBIA -- BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina has given the single largest donation to the South Carolina Research Authority to support high-technology startups. The Columbia-based insurer gave $2 million it would have paid in state taxes in exchange for a tax credit.

GREENVILLE – A water-sharing agreement between South Carolina and Georgia could be 18 months away according to a member of the Governor’s Savannah River Committee who spoke about the drought that has gripped the state at the Greenville Rotary Club. Five Upstate counties were upgraded to extreme drought status June 30.

COLUMBIA -- Columbia’s accounting is so tangled that city officials did not realize they have paid about $18 million more for health insurance and other costs in the last three years than was budgeted. The deficit in the city’s risk management fund was largely because of the increase in health insurance costs and claims.

CLEMSON -- A $200,000 grant from SCRA affiliate SC Launch! will further develop PinPoint GeoTech’s marketing and sales efforts for its public works software suite that helps cities more efficiently remove debris. The company has already received $75,000 from private investors.
