COLUMBIA -- A study by two economists from USC's Moore School of Business found a $1.4 billion impact on the state's economy last year by SCRA, a research and commercialization services company that fosters South Carolina's knowledge-based economic development efforts.

FLORENCE -- H.J. Heinz Co. will bring 350 jobs to the Pee Dee to staff a new Florence County facility to expand its production of frozen meals. The company will offer full- and part-time positions at a 225,000-square-foot facility on 49 acres in Pee Dee Electric Cooperative’s Touchstone Energy Commerce City, near Interstate 95 and S.C. 327.

NEWBERRY -- More than 200 jobs will be lost this summer in Newberry County as a boat builder closes and an auto parts maker lays off about a quarter of its work force. Chicago-based Brunswick Corp. will close its Newberry plant, which makes Sea Pro boats, putting 175 people out of work by July 14. And McKechnie Vehicle Components expects to lay off about 29 employees by July 1.

ANDERSON -- A Florida-based based company plans to invest $3 million and create 350 new jobs in the Upstate, converting a former Anderson supermarket into a call center. Cross Country Home Services Inc., a home warranty, service plan and homeowner emergency assistance company, will open its newest center in a former Winn Dixie store.
