COLUMBIA -- The South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism will meet with private developers about the possibility of transforming a 325-acre peninsula near Interstate 85 at Exit 1 into a public recreation project. The state of South Carolina has leased the property from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for 30 years.

BEAUFORT -- Investors have dumped more than $364 million into economic development on the Georgia side of the Savannah River in anticipation of a shipping port in Jasper County that is at least seven to 10 years away from opening.

MANNING -- IntraBond, a member of the Intraco Group, and a manufacturer of building construction components, will locate a new facility in Clarendon County with plans for a significant investment in the state and new job opportunities in the community. IntraBond will use its new location in the Clarendon Industrial Park near Manning to manufacture construction materials.

COLUMBIA -- Nearly 60% of South Carolinians characterized their current financial situation as either excellent or good, according to the the results of the latest Winthrop/ETV Poll. Conducted between Feb. 2 and Feb. 17, the poll surveyed South Carolinians on issues of importance to them and other front-burner issues.

COLUMBIA -- The university spun off some six startups in 2006, most related to alternative energy, fuel cells and health sciences, tying it with such academic giants as Johns Hopkins and Cornell. USC created five startups in 2007.
