Newberry to lose 200 jobs by summer Print E-mail

NEWBERRY -- More than 200 jobs will be lost this summer in Newberry County as a boat builder closes and an auto parts maker lays off about a quarter of its work force. Chicago-based Brunswick Corp. will close its Newberry plant, which makes Sea Pro boats, putting 175 people out of work by July 14. And McKechnie Vehicle Components expects to lay off about 29 employees by July 1.

Anderson wins call center, adds up to 350 jobs Print E-mail

ANDERSON -- A Florida-based based company plans to invest $3 million and create 350 new jobs in the Upstate, converting a former Anderson supermarket into a call center. Cross Country Home Services Inc., a home warranty, service plan and homeowner emergency assistance company, will open its newest center in a former Winn Dixie store.

Dunkin' Donuts buys land for second store Print E-mail

SPARTANBURG -- Dunkin' Donuts has closed the deal for a slice of property off East Main Street that will be home to its second Spartanburg restaurant by year's end. Bart Thorne, president and chief operating officer of Kainos LLC, a company formed in 2005 to develop Dunkin' Donuts retail stores in the Upstate, said the restaurant will be free-standing and contain a drive-through. Construction is expected to begin in June.

So, the president of Erwin-Penland Advertising based in Greenville, thought that staging conference to celebrate and foster great thinking made sense. URS dedicates Fort Mill nuclear center Print E-mail

FORT MILL -- URS Corp. opened its new URS Nuclear Energy Center in Fort Mill on Tuesday. The center will serve as headquarters for URS' commercial nuclear energy engineering and construction business and will provide a range of licensing, design, engineering and construction services for new nuclear generation facilities.
