COLUMBIA -- State revenue is down 6.4% compared with last year, Comptroller General Richard Eckstrom said. From July 1 through Feb. 28, the state has taken in $247.7 million less than it had at this point last year. In February, the state took in $65.7 million less revenue than it did in February 2009. |

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- President Barack Obama signed legislation earlier last week that the federal Small Business Administration said Thursday would extend through March 28 its ability to provide loans enhanced by Recovery Act provisions. The provisions include a higher guarantee on SBA-backed loans and a waiver of loan fees, the agency said. |

GREENVILLE -- Greenville-based Palmetto Bancshares Inc. expects to enter an agreement with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. that would require the bank to take quick action to improve its capital position. The holding company for The Palmetto Bank lost its “well capitalized” status from federal regulators last year, one of at least three Upstate banks to lose the distinction. |

GREENVILLE -- Carolina First Bank has been ranked No. 1 in U.S. Small Business Administration loan production in South Carolina for the first four months of the fiscal year that began Oct. 1. During this period, the banking subsidiary for The South Financial Group Inc. issued $4.2 million in loan commitments to small businesses via the SBA’s 7(a) loan program. |
