MYRTLE BEACH -- Dec. 21, 2006, is a day that Diane Munch of Socastee remembers well.  It was the day she found out she would lose her job at Coastal Federal Bank - one of 140 employees who would be laid off or retire because of the merger with BB&T.

MYRTLE BEACH -- Waccamaw Bank of Whiteville, N.C., is buying four coastal Carolina banking offices from BB&T Corp. that had closed after BB&T's merger with Myrtle Beach-based Coastal Federal.

Aiken bank rides into Columbia Print E-mail

COLUMBIA -- Security Federal is crossing the river into Columbia. The Aiken-based bank, which for several years has operated in West Columbia and Lexington, expects to open its first branch in the city of Columbia on Nov. 1.
