MYRTLE BEACH -- Africa Israel Investments, an Israeli company that is a major investor in Hard Rock Park, wrote off its $10 million investment in the park last quarter "due to liquidity difficulties the park is experiencing due to low attendance compared to its business plan," Chief Financial Officer Ron Fainaro said on a conference call Tuesday morning.

COLUMBIA -- As the Columbia hotel market is growing, the Inn at USC is poised to play a more direct role. Since its 2004 opening, the inn has operated under a covenant with local hoteliers, who feared the university-approved competitor would cut into their limited downtown business. That covenant restricted the inn’s public marketing and put an initial limit on occupancy rates.

GREENVILLE -- A familiar name will soon disappear from the Upstate's travel scene, but the people behind the name are remaining part of the business. Carlson Wagonlit Travel said Monday that it has acquired Piedmont Travel Inc., the largest travel agency in South Carolina. The purchase price was not disclosed.
