GREENVILLE -- Federal law enforcement officials said Thursday they have nearly doubled the size of an Upstate task force investigating financial crimes and identity theft tied to postal violations. Those crimes are "as widespread as they've ever been," U.S. Attorney Walt Wilkins.

CHARLESTON -- The antitrust practice group of the Nexsen Pruet law firm recently secured $107 million for its clients in the settlement of a textile price-fixing lawsuit. The settlement is the largest in the law firm’s history, company officials said in a news release.

In a scene eerily reminiscent of the aftermath of the Carolina Investors collapse five years ago, a crowd of nearly 100 angry Upstate residents gathered in the parking lot of a failed financial management firm Monday evening, demanding answers. An attorney who has been appointed to find out who lost money and how much.

COLUMBIA -- The S.C. General Assembly adjourned Thursday with Gov. Mark Sanford suggesting the Legislature could be sued for passing an unbalanced budget and could be called back into session to fix it. “It is an extreme problem. It may solicit a lawsuit,” Sanford said.
