GAFFNEY – UPS has placed an order with Daimler Trucks North America to supply 500 environmentally-friendly commercial vehicles — the largest order of alternative-fuel and drive train commercial vehicles to date. UPS has ordered 200 hybrid electric vehicles and 300 compressed natural gas vehicles, which will be manufactured by Daimler’s Freightliner Custom Chassis Corporation based in Gaffney.

LYMAN -- OmniSource Corp., a subsidiary of Indiana-based Steel Dynamics Inc., has purchased Recycle South LLC of Lyman for $500 million. The deal includes more than 3.9 million shares of Steel Dynamics common stock, with a value of about $138 million; $232 million in cash; and the assumption of about $135 million in debt.

TRAVELERS REST -- Precision Corp., a global manufacturer of aerosol valves and accessories, announced it will add 190 jobs and a $50 million investment to its Travelers Rest facilities. The company's expansion includes more than 40,000 square feet of new production space at its facility on Krieger Drive in Travelers Rest. It also includes the modification and reconfiguration of the company's site near Furman University.

GREENVILLE -- BMW Group reported April sales in the United States increased 9.6 percent from a year ago, but the German automaker is still down 4 percent in domestic sales for the first four months of the year. The three models made at BMW Manufacturing Co.'s Greer plant all had good months in dealer showrooms. The X6 sports activity vehicle sold 655 vehicles the first week it was on sale.

GREENVILLE -- Fluor Corp. isn't the only engineering and construction company that is enjoying record profits amid a boom in heavy construction. Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. is seeing record profits, too, and that bodes well for its Greenville office, a company executive said.
