IKS to expand in Florence, add up to 40 jobs Print E-mail

FLORENCE -- International Knife & Saw Inc. delivered some good economic news to Florence on Tuesday. UCT Coatings Inc. of Stuart, Fla., and IKS have entered into an agreement that has resulted in an expansion of IKS in Florence. The deal will mean the addition of about 15 employees in the next three months, but that could increase to 30 or 40 new hires over time, IKS President David Graham said.

CLEMSON -- Those who work and study at the Clemson University International Center for Automotive Research (CU-ICAR) campus in Greenville will be working from a position of physical strength as well as economic and academic strength, thanks to a $500,000 investment by Bon Secours St. Francis Health System. A life fitness center located in CU-ICAR’s Innovation Place will bear the St. Francis name. In addition, St. Francis will provide health education information and programs to promote wellness at the CU-ICAR location.

BMWs damaged at sea Print E-mail

GREENVILLE -- BMW does not expect its U.S. sales launch for the models to be delayed after a Jan. 11 storm in the North Sea severely damaged 120 of the German automaker's vehicles, including a few of the first shipment of 1 Series and M3s en route to New Jersey. The cars were damaged so severely they will not be repaired.

ANDERSON -- Anderson is among leading candidates in the Carolinas and Georgia for a VW car plant that would bring hundreds of jobs and heavy investments in a region sorely in need of both. Automotive News, a Detroit trade magazine, reported Saturday that Volkswagen AG was homing in on the South for the plant that would complement its assembly plant in Mexico, citing sources familiar with the project.

Pepsi to open center Print E-mail

FLORENCE -- Pepsi-Cola of Florence has announced plans for a new, 155,000-square-foot distribution center in the Pee Dee Touchstone Energy Commerce City in Florence County. The company will join IFH, Johnson Controls, Crenlo and FedEx in the industrial park off S.C. Highway 327 near Interstate 95.
