Force Protection cuts work force, plans move Print E-mail

SUMMERVILLE -- Force Protection has cut its S.C. work force as the company tries to overcome financial problems. The Ladson-based company is also moving part of its operation from Summerville to Roxboro, N.C., where it bought a former automotive plant in 2007, chief executive officer Michael Moody said Thursday.

Cytec breaks ground on carbon fiber expansion Print E-mail

GREENVILLE -- Cytec Industries Inc. marked the company’s first construction phase of its new carbon fiber manufacturing plant expansion in Greenville with a groundbreaking Wednesday. Construction is scheduled for completion in 2009.

PhibroWood expansion could hit $10M Print E-mail

SUMTER – PhibroWood LLC has announced a multi-million expansion for its Sumter facility, operated by affiliate Phibro-Tech Inc. The expansion investment could hit $10 million and will allow the company to produce a new wood preservative called Sustain 20T, which was developed at the same site. The expansion will take place in three phases over several years, said Dwight Glover, president of PhibroWood. The first phase is complete and included investments of $2 million to $3 million and the retention of 5-10 existing jobs.

American LaFrance emerges from bankruptcy Print E-mail

SUMMERVILLE – American LaFrance LLC announced it has emerged from bankruptcy after the company’s Plan of Reorganization was accepted by a judge on Friday. The company had filed for Chapter 11 protection in January after putting about 100 employees on furlough and accruing more than $100 million in debt, according to court documents.

Green manufacturer invests in Marion County Print E-mail

MARION COUNTY -- A $17 million investment will bring up to 40 manufacturing jobs to one of the most economically depressed counties in the state. Carolina AAC LLC will locate a manufacturing facility in Marion County where the company will produce Autoclaved Aerated Concrete for commercial and residential use.
