CHARLESTON -- A homebuilder trade magazine has marked the Charleston housing market as one of the top 5 regions on the mend. Builder magazine staked out the 20 healthiest housing markets for 2010 in its latest issue. Charleston was the highest-ranked market listed in South Carolina, with the Greenville region coming in at No. 19 and the Grand Strand at No. 15. |

COLUMBIA -- The city of Columbia’s pilot program of Housing First, which places the chronically homeless in housing, is showing signs of success, according to a recent report to the city by David Parker, director of Supportive Housing Services at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine. The three-year program, which ends in June, has placed 62 people in housing and is running at 20% below budget. |

COLUMBIA – Statewide home sales dropped 29% from December to January, according to numbers released by the S.C. Realtors Association Tuesday. However, the total number of homes sold in January, listed at 2,487, was 15% higher than last January's total. Several markets reported big increases in year-over-year home sales, including a 103.6% increase in the Hilton Head area, a 50.4% increase in the Grand Strand and a 42.6% increase in Aiken. |
