Greenville housing to rise Print E-mail

GREENVILLE -- Housing prices in Greenville should appreciate at a rate higher than the average for the nation. And building permits here will slip but not to unprecedented lows. That's the assessment of David Pressly, the immediate past president of the 235,000-member National Association of Home Builders. Pressly spoke this week at the annual meeting of the Greenville Homebuilders Association.

MYRTLE BEACH -- Home and condo sales in the coastal Carolinas declined in October compared with the same month last year, continuing the market correction that experts say they expected when excessive building and less demand for homes glutted the market, according to data released Wednesday from the Coastal Carolinas Association of Realtors.

GREENVILLE -- The Upstate's 11.6 percent decrease in residential building permits for the third quarter of 2007 means the region is returning to "more normal levels," said the president of a Knoxville firm that tracks residential and commercial building trends.

Sales of existing homes across the United States fell by 8% in September, but local real estate pros reiterated their view that there's no such thing as a national market. The National Association of Realtors said Wednesday that residential sales registered the largest monthly decline since 1999.

COLUMBIA -- Despite a steep decline in Columbia-area home sales in September, real estate agents remain optimistic because of the area’s traditionally stable market. Sales sank 18% in September over the same month last year, with homes staying on the market an average of 85 days, up nearly 15%, according to data from the S.C. Association of Realtors.
