Muzak emerges from Chapter 11 Print E-mail

FORT MILL – Muzak Holdings LLC has completed its financial restructuring plan and emerged from Chapter 11 protection, officials announced Monday. Part of the plan included a $108.75 million senior secured exit financing facility commitment from several sources including Silver Point Finance LLC, which is now the majority equity owner of Muzak.

Food Lion to close two stores in South Carolina Print E-mail

COLUMBIA -- Food Lion will close two grocery stores in South Carolina. The stores are among 15 underperforming stores being shuttered nationally. Each Food Lion store employs 35 to 45 workers on average, a spokeswoman said.

Spending down over ‘Black Friday’ weekend Print E-mail

CHARLESTON -- More people went shopping this past Black Friday weekend than in 2008, but average spending fell from last year, the National Retail Federation reported. The retail industry group looks at national sales and shopping patterns on Friday and over the weekend. The group’s survey found that 195 million shoppers visited stores and Web sites over the three days, up from 172 million last year. But average spending fell from last year’s $372.57 to $343.31 this year.

NORTH CHARLESTON -- In terms of job creation, the U.S. Department of Energy said Monday’s announcement of a wind turbine drivetrain test facility in North Charleston could be bigger than Boeing’s announcement of a new aircraft assembly plant near Charleston. The development of wind energy could create as many as 20,000 jobs for the Palmetto State.
