MYRTLE BEACH -- More passengers flew into Myrtle Beach International Airport in the first 11 months of this year than in all of 2000, officially making 2007 the busiest year ever for MYR. The latest passenger numbers released Monday by the airport show that it's on track to tally more than 800,000 incoming passengers this year - around 17 percent more than last year.

400 laid off in bankruptcy Print E-mail

NORTH CHARLESTON -- Protected Vehicles Inc., the North Charleston-based mine-resistant vehicle manufacturer, has laid off approximately 400 workers and will file for Chapter 11 protection in Delaware, according to one of its attorneys who also said the bankruptcy and layoffs were a direct result of the litigation with its local competitor.

HILTON HEAD -- Friends of the Rivers released its State of the Rivers Report Card to the public for the first time Wednesday at the Stormwater Management Utility Board meeting. The report, produced by the rivers group, the LowCountry Institute and the Port Royal Sound Conservancy, highlights the iconic and economic importance of local waterways.

S.C. gas prices take dip Print E-mail

GREENVILLE -- Heading into the weekend, the average price at the pump statewide decreased to $2.943, down from$2.948 on the previous day. Elsewhere in the state, Charleston reported average prices at the pump of $2.961, down from $2.969 on Thursday. Columbia’s average price is $2.956 today, down from $2.962 the day before. And Myrtle Beach reported $2.943 per gallon at the pump today, down from $2.95 on the preceding day.

FLORENCE — The U.S. 301 Bypass opens a gateway to Florence that offers a better path for commuting college students, emergency workers and other motorists in the area, local leaders said during a Thursday ribbon-cutting ceremony. “From this day forward, there will be countless lives saved because of swift and direct connections to our area’s hospitals,” state Sen. Hugh Leatherman, R-Florence, said.
