GREENVILLE -- After seeing his company’s stock price fall 31% in a year, South Financial Group President Mack I. Whittle Jr. announced he would leave his post at the end of the year. TSFG is the holding company for Carolina First Bank, one of the largest banks in the state.

Union City Council fires zoning director Print E-mail

UNION -- The Union City Council fired Building and Zoning Director Jeff Lawson Tuesday evening. Lawson was indicted July 17 on accusations that he and Mayor Bruce Morgan accepted $30,000 in kickbacks from contractors bidding on city projects. Morgan resigned that day, and Lawson has been on unpaid leave since that day.

Mauldin man's goal: foiling terrorists Print E-mail

MAULDIN -- Larry Golden doesn't have an engineering degree. And his job doesn't involve chemistry, biology or radiology. But the Mauldin resident and his company, Anti-Terrorism Product Grouping Technology LLC, were just awarded a U.S. patent that denotes knowledge in all these areas. His patent is for a multi-sensor detection and lock disabling system designed to monitor products and detect chemical, biological, and radiological agents to prevent terrorist activity.
