The headline “The glass ceiling doesn’t apply” caught my attention. It was a short piece in The (Myrtle Beach) Sun News about a new business book for women, "Through the Labyrinth: The Truth About How Women Become Leaders" by Alice H. Eagly and Linda L. Carli. According to the article, the book questions whether people resist women in leadership positions (think Hillary Clinton). It also looks at whether women lead in a different way than men and if family responsibilities hold women back, particularly from leadership positions.

The Illegal Immigration Reform Study Committee, appointed by Senate President Pro Tem Glenn McConnell, is making its way around the state, listening to citizens' concerns about illegal immigration. More than 150 people gathered in the Upstate Monday night for a chance to voice their opinions. The panel, which had several hearings in Columbia already, will meet in Charleston Oct. 23 and in Pendleton Nov. 15.

Tipping—when to, how much—can be complicated. Check out this story in The Sun News about the sticky situation of tipping. In my family, my husband is a big tipper. I tend to believe people should all be paid a fair wage and tipping should depend more on the service than some predetermined percentage. What do you think? Particularly, if you’re working in the hospitality industry, should employees be paid minimum wage or depend heavily on tips?
