The first in a statewide network of patient simulation research and education centers opened at Greenville Health System today, marking the first step in what Health Sciences South Carolina hopes will become a national model for state-of-the-art clinical training for physicians, nurses and allied health professionals.

WARRENVILLE -- Farmers & Truckers Biodiesel announced Tuesday it is locating a new manufacturing facility in Aiken County. The $1.4 million investment is expected to bring 15 new jobs to the area within six months and an additional 45 jobs within three years. The company has purchased the KT Clay Warehouse facility in Warrenville to become its new manufacturing facility.

Lights flick on only when someone enters the space and flick off when someone leaves or when the space becomes filled with sunlight. Desks, partitions and other furnishings are made from recyclable sunflower husks and regionally harvested woods. Paints and carpets are toxic-free. Rainwater is used to fill the facility’s toilets.

Stephen Mappus has joined Harbor National Bank as vice president, residential and commercial lender. Mappus works in the bank’s downtown Charleston branch.

He has more than a decade of banking experience, focusing on residential mortgages while with the Bank of South Carolina. He also has worked with Region’s Bank and Wachovia of Charleston.

Harbor National Bank opened its doors in March 2006 after posting a private stock offering of $29.3 million, the second highest amount ever raised by a community bank in South Carolina. The bank executive staff and board of directors consists of all Charleston area residents.

The U.S. Department of Energy and the Washington Savannah River Co.--a subsidiary of Washington Group International--agreed on a contract extension for management and operation of DOE's Savannah River Site through June 30, 2008. WSRC has been the management and operating contractor at the site since 1989.
