A bill is making its way through the S.C. House and Senate that would extend wireless Internet access to all areas of the state. If South Carolina lawmakers approve such a concept, the state would be the first in the nation to offer wireless broadband to all residents.

Eastman Chemical Co. has appointed Dennis Ramsey as site manager for the company's South Carolina operations effective March 5. Eastman's South Carolina Operations is the world’s largest manufacturer of polyethylene terephthalate polymers for packaging.

South Carolina Heart Center in Columbia is part of a new initiative to cardiology services. The center is working with the Nebraska Heart Institute Heart Hospital of Lincoln, Neb., the region's premiere facility for cardiac, vascular and thoracic services, to implement a new multimodality cardiovascular information system designed to streamline clinical, financial and operational workflow across the cardiology continuum with the beta implementation of Siemens Soarian Cardiology 2.0.

Southern Co. signed a long-term wholesale power agreement with Progress Energy Carolinas, a subsidiary of Progress Energy. Under the agreement, Southern Co. will provide 150 megawatts of wholesale power to Progress Energy Carolinas from 2010 through 2019.
