COLUMBIA -- The University of South Carolina is among the Top 10 "Most Promising and Innovative Schools" in the nation, according to U.S. News & World Report's 2009 America’s Best Colleges guide. The new ranking is just one bit of good news regarding national recognition for South Carolina students as they begin classes this week.

COLUMBIA -- The University of South Carolina’s stature as a top-tier research institution rose over the past year, as external grant funding for research increased 11%, from $185.7 million to $206 million. It was the first year such highly-sought-after funding topped $200 million.

COLUMBIA -- The University of South Carolina raised $106.2 million in 2007- 08, shattering all fund-raising records, university officials announced Wednesday. The $106.2 million in private gifts and pledges for the year ending June 30 is a 58.7 percent increase over the 2007-08 total of $66.9 million and eclipses a record $96.5 million.

COLUMBIA -- USC’s Board of Trustees will hold a special meeting Friday to select a new president, trustees said Tuesday after a three-hour, closed-door meeting to discuss the search. Trustees will vote to select one of three finalists, who will be named today or Thursday, said trustee Miles Loadholt.
