ANDERSON -- A Florida-based based company plans to invest $3 million and create 350 new jobs in the Upstate, converting a former Anderson supermarket into a call center. Cross Country Home Services Inc., a home warranty, service plan and homeowner emergency assistance company, will open its newest center in a former Winn Dixie store.

SPARTANBURG -- Dunkin' Donuts has closed the deal for a slice of property off East Main Street that will be home to its second Spartanburg restaurant by year's end. Bart Thorne, president and chief operating officer of Kainos LLC, a company formed in 2005 to develop Dunkin' Donuts retail stores in the Upstate, said the restaurant will be free-standing and contain a drive-through. Construction is expected to begin in June.

SPARTANBURG -- The Acceleration Sports Institute in the $22 million, four-story Steadman Hawkins Clinic of the Carolinas building at 1650 Skylyn Drive has abruptly closed. Members arrived at the institute Monday, looking forward to working with trainers, but were surprised to be met with a note posted on the gym's door.

LIBERTY -- Officials are working toward making the Pickens County Airport an asset for the county, helped in no small part by the recent announcement of a nearly $330,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation. Part of a $1.1 million airport facilities project, the federal funds will go toward construction of a new terminal building and adjacent parking lot, which the county hopes will be completed by 2009.

GREENVILLE -- Level One, a company that processes leasing inquiries for apartment complexes and property management groups nationwide, is moving its operations from Greenville to a new facility on a 13-acre site on Batesville Road just south of Interstate 85. Eventually, Level One plans to grow its 260-employee operation to 1,200 employees and three shifts a day.

So, the president of Erwin-Penland Advertising based in Greenville, thought that staging conference to celebrate and foster great thinking made sense.
