Littlefield Corp. acquires S.C. bingo licenses

COLUMBIA -- Austin, Texas-based Littlefield Corp. has completed the acquisition of six bingo halls over the objection of the S.C. Department of Revenue. “This acquisition strengthens and broadens our portfolio and strategically positions us for further growth and expansion in South Carolina," said Jeffrey L. Minch, president and CEO of Littlefield.

Bank, investment firm form partnership

GREENWOOD -- TCB Corp., the holding company for Greenwood-based Countybank, is acquiring a majority interest in Greenwood Capital LLC, an investment advisory firm in Greenwood. The combined entity has more than $1.1 billion in assets managed or administered and is one of the largest independent investment firms in South Carolina.

Cummins adds 100 jobs with expansion

NORTH CHARLESTON -- The company, which has two manufacturing locations in the Charleston area, will add 100 jobs and $11 million in equipment to its operations at the Palmetto Commerce Park. Mandates on fuel efficiency and emissions standards are driving demand for Cummins.

Pro cycling brings national attention to CU-ICAR

GREENVILLE -- CU-ICAR and the City of Greenville will be in the spotlight over Labor Day weekend as host of the Greenville Hospital System USA Cycling Pro Championships. Greenville City Manager Jim Bourey said that this was a “signature event and a wonderful partnership,” with CU-ICAR.

Dreamliner on track despite some glitches

NORTH CHARLESTON -- Boeing's 787 Dreamliner is still on track for first flight this fall and delivery in the third quarter of 2009, but manufacturing issues are eating up extra time Boeing built into the schedule, and the program manager said the experience level of workers in North Charleston is affecting its ability to deal with supply chain issues.

State working to improve lack of 'megasites'

GREENVILLE -- South Carolina has not developed an extensive list of industrial sites certified by experts as ready for an auto plant such as the one created in Tennessee as part of a successful effort to recruit a Volkswagen factory. But state officials are working to rectify this in hopes of landing another automaker.
