GREENVILLE -- With the economy as shaky as it is, you'd think Greenville County's industrial recruiters would be as lonely as the Maytag repairman. As it turns out, they say they're working as hard as ever courting numerous companies that are thinking about building or expanding facilities in the county.

Developers readying to go vertical in Jedburg

Bankruptcies shouldn’t be fatal to S.C. institutions

U.S. Foodservice cutting nearly 240 Upstate jobs

GREENVILLE -- Foodservice Inc. said Monday it would close its distribution center on White Horse Road by Nov. 9, leaving 175 people out of work, and eliminate another 68 positions at a regional support office in the Brookfield Corporate Center in Mauldin. The Columbia, Md.-based company, the nation's No. 2 food service provider, will continue to operation six other distribution centers operated by its chain-restaurant division, North Star Foodservice.

Economy slows proposed development on I-85

GREER -- The slumping economy has slowed a proposed 160-acre, $295 million mixed-use development at Greer's exit on Interstate 85, but its developers continue to pursue their plans and are pushing the state to implement a 2007 law that gives big box retailers special incentives.

State Board of Education bans school bus ads

COLUMBIA -- The state Board of Education banned billboard and broadcast advertising inside school buses last week, eliminating a potential $10.6 million revenue stream for schools. The S.C. Department of Education had given school districts authority to sell billboard ads on buses. All ads would have been subject to state and district approval.
