Local residents offer mixed opinions of S.C. 802 projects

LADY'S ISLAND -- Curious and concerned residents mingled with contract engineers and county officials Thursday while scrutinizing aerial photos, street-level renderings and scale drawings that detail the planned widening of S.C. 802 on Lady's Island and in Shell Point.

County still expects deal from Project Skyline

GREENVILLE -- The topic hasn't surfaced openly for almost six months, but Greenville County officials say they're still trying to negotiate a proposed $2.4 billion economic development deal that goes by the code name Project Skyline.

GREENVILLE -- The Upstate's 11.6 percent decrease in residential building permits for the third quarter of 2007 means the region is returning to "more normal levels," said the president of a Knoxville firm that tracks residential and commercial building trends.

Housing keeps slipping

Sales of existing homes across the United States fell by 8% in September, but local real estate pros reiterated their view that there's no such thing as a national market. The National Association of Realtors said Wednesday that residential sales registered the largest monthly decline since 1999.

Housing stable in Columbia area

COLUMBIA -- Despite a steep decline in Columbia-area home sales in September, real estate agents remain optimistic because of the area’s traditionally stable market. Sales sank 18% in September over the same month last year, with homes staying on the market an average of 85 days, up nearly 15%, according to data from the S.C. Association of Realtors.
