GREER -- Richard Morris has been named assembly vice president at BMW Manufacturing Co., succeeding Barbara Bergmeier, the company announced Tuesday.

Morris began his career with BMW Manufacturing in 1993 following almost 10 years in quality engineering positions with various automotive manufacturers in the United States.

Bergmeier has been in Spartanburg since 2006 and played a key role in the construction of the new 1.2 million-square-foot assembly line. Bergmeier is returning to Germany to take on another role with BMW.

Morris comes on as the BMW begins testing equipment at the new line, which is part of the company’s $750 million expansion that is nearing completion.

He earned an MBA from Clemson University and holds a B.S. in mechanical engineering from General Motors Institute. He is married with two children.

Since 1993, Morris has held numerous positions with BMW Manufacturing, including a 2-year assignment in Germany where he served as the project leader for the next generation X5 Sports Activity Vehicle launched in 2006. Most recently, Morris served as assembly manager.
