GREENVILLE -- Carolina First announced that its customers and employees raised more than $23,000 to benefit local children’s charities through the Carolina First 12 Days of Christmas program.

Along with the cash contributions, hundreds of toys and items like food and toiletries were delivered to 17 charities throughout North Carolina, South Carolina and Florida. Each market chose children’s charities in their area to receive these donations. The charities chosen for the Upstate were Helping Hands and Meyer Center for Special Children.

The 12-day program, which began on Dec. 1 and ran through Dec. 12, gave customers and employees an opportunity to donate money and goods at any Carolina First branch in North Carolina and South Carolina.

“Carolina First has a long history of giving back to the community, and in the spirit of the holiday season we asked our customers to join us in supporting local children in need through the 12 Days of Christmas program,” said Lynn Harton, CEO of Carolina First’s parent company, The South Financial Group. “We are grateful for all our customers and employees who joined with us to help make a difference in the lives of people in our communities.”
