COLUMBIA -- Kaye Hearn, who is currently chief judge of the S.C. Court of Appeals, will join the S.C. Supreme Court on Thursday.
State lawmakers elected Hearn in May to fill a vacancy on the state Supreme Court created by Justice John Waller’s retirement.
Hearn will be the second female justice to serve on the state’s Supreme Court. Chief Justice Jean Toal was the first woman elected to the state’s highest court, in 1988.
Hearn’s investiture will take place at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at the Supreme Court Building in Columbia.
Attendance is by invitation only because of limited seating, but the event will be broadcast live by S.C. ETV.
