SPARTANBURG -- San Diego-based ResMed Corp. announced it will open a distribution facility in the Spartangreen Industrial Park in Duncan. The investment is expected to create 50 jobs.
ResMed’s East Coast distribution center will occupy the 174,000-square-foot building formerly housed by BMW Direct Marketing Inc. at 110 Hidden Lake Circle. The company is consolidating operations from two other South Carolina facilities, said spokeswoman Constance Bienfait. ResMed employs about 40 here now, she said.
“We are very excited about the move to Spartanburg County where we will be in a facility that allows us to consolidate our East Coast operations and gives us the ability to expand,” said Ric Wonders, ResMed’s vice president of U.S. operations. “The larger facility gives us room to grow, as the South Carolina facility houses one of our largest U.S. distribution centers. This location also offers us closer access to major highways and ports that will expedite the transport of our products and lower transportation costs.”
ResMed develops, manufactures and distributes medical equipment for treating, diagnosing, and managing sleep-disordered breathing and other respiratory disorders.
“South Carolina continues to present great opportunities for growing firms looking to extend their market reach,” said Joe Taylor, Secretary of Commerce. “ResMed’s decision to expand its distribution operations and increase its workforce in South Carolina is a testament to our state’s strong market access, quality infrastructure and exceptional work force. In today’s increasingly competitive marketplace, time is money for businesses and we recognize that our state’s prime location halfway between New York and Miami coupled with remarkable interstate access, makes South Carolina a location that can increase efficiency and impact a bottom line.”
“Spartanburg County, located at the crossroads of two major interstates, I-26 and I-85, provides an excellent location for distribution of products to major markets. ResMed’s selection of a facility in Spartanburg County, for its East Coast operations, verifies Spartanburg’s location as an excellent location to access markets. ResMed’s continued growth in the Upstate and Spartanburg County are greatly welcomed,” said David Britt, chairman of the Economic Recruitment Committee of Spartanburg County Council and member of the Economic Futures Group Board.
