COLUMBIA -- The S.C. Department of Parks, Recreation & Tourism has embarked on a new culinary adventure and is inviting everyone along.

The tourism agency has launched a new microsite at http://www.savorsouthcarolina.com/ that celebrates South Carolina's culinary offerings--new and old.

The site invites visitors to tell others about their favorite chefs, restaurants and personal recipes, and includes information on wineries and breweries, restaurants, culinary festivals and events and other palatable attractions of the Palmetto State.

Famous South Carolina recipes featured on the site include frogmore stew, sweet potato pie, grits, okra, barbecue and more.

The site serves as a portal to all things culinary from South Carolina including cook books and food-related publications by South Carolina chefs and culinary experts. South Carolina food products featured on the site include boiled peanuts, grits, barbecue sauces and more. Interactive food trivia games--the first is "Dress the She Crab"--are also included for young Web surfers.

Along with encouraging culinary travelers to visit South Carolina, the Web site is intended to create a community around the state's unique mix of cuisines and cultures, a community where users can share their ideas and opinions and take
advantage of what the state has to offer at the table from the mountain to the sea.
