GREENVILLE – Centennial American Properties LLC, a real estate development firm, has announced plans for the development of Easton Marketplace, a lifestyle center with nearly 500,000 square feet of retail space.

Easton Marketplace, Spartanburg’s first lifestyle retail center, will be constructed on the site of the Lan-Yair Golf Club, adjacent to the Home Depot on East Main Street. Centennial will be requesting annexation from the city of Spartanburg. The new center will include a mix of national and local retailers. In addition to the anchor tenants, Easton Marketplace will also include a village-style center with restaurants and other specialty shops. The project is expected to be completed in the summer of 2009.

While Easton Marketplace’s committed retail partners cannot be announced at this time, Centennial American Properties has announced that in addition to Easton Marketplace’s lifestyle retail offerings, the master development, on the almost 200 acre site, will include both single-family and multi-family housing.

Johnson Development of Spartanburg will develop about 280 luxury apartments. Additionally, 140 single-family units are in planning and under negotiations. Bike paths and sidewalks are planned throughout the development to provide a pedestrian-friendly environment.

According to the International Council of Shopping Centers, a true lifestyle center must include the following attributes: a location near affluent residential neighborhoods; an upscale orientation; 150,000 square feet to 500,000 square feet of gross leaseable area; an open-air format; and at least 50,000 square feet of national specialty chain stores.
