FLORENCE — ScienceSouth and Florence County’s Lynches River County Park Environmental Discovery Center have agreed to partner to advance learning opportunities for the region.

ScienceSouth and Florence County’s Lynches River County Park EDC each share a mission to create learning experiences that foster experiential learning, thinking and awareness of the importance of the natural resources. Together the organizations plan to provide learning experiences for Florence County and Pee Dee region residents and visitors.

“Developing partnerships is a vital development strategy for ScienceSouth as a private not-for-profit,” said ScienceSouth Chairman Hood Temple, an attorney for Hyman law firm in Florence. “By leveraging the combined resources of ScienceSouth and Lynches River EDC, we can streamline our educational efforts and enhance the impact in our community.”

ScienceSouth and Florence County’s EDC will sign a Memorandum of Understanding on Thursday at the Lynches River County Park’s Community Center. The two organizations have agreed to conduct activities that range from sharing the expertise of staff and use of facilities to collaborating on new projects and fundraising.

ScienceSouth was developed six years ago as the result of a cooperative between local businesses and educators who wanted to increase learning opportunities in science, mathematics and technology for students in the Florence area.

The mission of the Lynches River Park Committee and the EDC is to develop and reveal the natural resources of the Lynches River Park for the purpose of advancing education, stewardship and recreation.
