First Bank of America, now Wells Fargo. Here's another story in the continuing saga of issuing credit cards to people who don't have a Social Security number, namely illegal immigrants. What exactly does this mean for customers who have Social Security numbers and credit histories? Will they bear the cost of these new programs?
Speechless
written by Ronda Bailey on March 02, 2007 This is shocking and appalling at the same time. Many Americans have ruined their own credit because they do not always understand the fine print, and are not always fully educated in how to handle their financial needs. I was speaking with a Trident Technical College professor last week who couldn’t believe the lack of financial responsibility students have today. Apparently the class was discussing finances, and many of her students didn’t feel it necessary to keep up with their bank statements, and assumed that although they had credit card debt it was okay; paying it off was not necessary. If Americans feel this way, and truly have little understanding of the responsibility behind their own finances and credit card debt then how are illegal immigrants going to fair? What is stopping criminals from saying they have no social security number, or background of any kind from getting a card loading it up, and then leaving it behind unpaid? This only increases interest rates for those who are working hard, paying off their credit cards, or trying to keep their balances low. This is unfair to those who are working hard, and trying to maintain a decent credit history of their own. I just don’t know what else to say about this, I’m completely speechless. |
