The BlueCross BlueShield Foundation continued its statewide tour awarding health care-related grants to various free medical clinics, health education programs, and school nursing programs. The foundation presented a check in the amount of $150,000 for the AccessNet system, an information technology initiative of the Palmetto Project.
The Palmetto Project is a private, nonprofit initiative to put new and creative ideas to work in South Carolina. AccessNet, one of more than 100 innovative projects sponsored by the Palmetto Project since it began in 1984, will serve as a single point of access to the state’s health care system for both the uninsured and underinsured in Charleston, Berkeley and Dorchester counties.
The foundation has already awarded more than $1.6 million in grants this year throughout South Carolina for such wide-ranging projects as free medical clinics, health education programs and school nursing programs.
