Brooks honored with Urban League award |

SPARTANBURG -- The Urban League of the Upstate Spartanburg has announced the recipient of its highest honor, the Humanitarian Award, is Bernard E. Brooks.
Brooks will be honored on Nov. 13 at the Urban League annual gala celebration.
Named after the late Whitney M. Young Jr., former president of the National Urban League, this award goes to individuals who are identified as having made a significant, positive difference in helping community minorities and disadvantaged people to become more self-sufficient, thus, improving their quality of life.
A South Carolina native, Brooks is the founder and president of Bernard E. Brooks & Associates Inc. This Spartanburg-based national management consulting firm provides professional assistance to corporations, academic institutions, health care organizations and other nonprofit organizations. Prior to starting his own consulting firm in 1985, he was a partner with Ernst & Young where he was responsible for providing consulting assistance to national and international organizations. He has also held management positions with AT&T, Trans World Airlines and the Chase Manhattan Bank.
Brooks’s present professional and civic activities include membership on many boards such as The Mary Black Foundation, JMSmith Corp. and the Mt. Moriah Foundation of Spartanburg. He is also the secretary of the board of trustees at Wofford College.
