Summerville papermaking plant Syn Strand Inc. has completed an expansion of its 96,000-square-foot facility to accommodate additional support and five new jobs.

The company, owned by Voith AG of Heidenheim, Germany, opened its local plant in 1988 and processes papermaking fabrics from monofilaments. The company began work on its $2.5 million, 14,000-square-foot expansion earlier this year. Syn Strand is one of 14 international companies in the county.

Syn Strand operates in the Eastport Industrial Park on Highway 78 and employs 77.
