LADSON -- General Dynamics Land Systems has received a $47.2 million order for spare parts from Force Protection Inc. for the U.S. Mine Resistant Ambush Protected vehicle program.
Ladson-based Force Protection and General Dynamics have a partnership to share in the production and program management of MRAP vehicle contacts.
General Dynamics was previously awarded a $188.8 million work order from Force Protection to produce 401 vehicles for the MRAP vehicle program. The latest delivery order purchases spare parts for Force Protection's category I 4X4 and category II 6X6 Cougar vehicles. Work will be performed by existing General Dynamics' employees in Sterling Heights, Michigan.
Force Protection manufactures ballistic- and mine-protected vehicles. These specialty vehicles are protected against landmines, hostile fire, and improvised explosive devices. Force Protection's mine and ballistic protection technology is among the most advanced in the world. The vehicles are manufactured near Charleston, S.C.
