Think back about a dozen years ago to a time when e-mail was in the early stages of use. Remember when you sent correspondence via mail? When you called people on the telephone?
How is it in just a few years we have become so tied to our e-mail? We take it with us via laptops, cell phones and the infamous Blackberry. We search for WiFi spots and hope the access is free. The instant our “You’ve got mail” icon appears in the corner of our computer screen, we are checking the message. Heaven forbid we are unreachable for 10 minutes.
Here’s an interesting story from The Wall Street Journal about taking an Internet-free day or days. It’s tougher than we might think. We do love our e-mail and our instant communication.
Could you go cold turkey for a day?
