COLUMBIA -- This morning, a delegation from the Greater Columbia Chamber of Commerce is flying to Birmingham, Ala., to persuade more than 200 civilian Army employees to move to Fort Jackson. During the one-day meeting, the employees who work in the Army’s 81st Regional Readiness Command will hear about Columbia’s schools, housing, entertainment venues and job market, said retired Maj. Gen. George Goldsmith.
