South Carolina Federal Credit Union, headquartered in North Charleston, is one of the 100 largest credit unions in the United States. The credit union has more than 148,000 members and $1 billion in assets.
Yet when it comes to its employees, the credit union is focused on meeting their needs.
“The credit union strives to be an employer of choice by keeping one step ahead of employees’ needs. Being named one of the Best Places to Work affirms our employees are happy working here,” said Leslie Norris, senior vice president of human resources and development at the credit union.
“South Carolina Federal extends its ‘Life Simplified’ brand philosophy to employees by fostering work-life balance and offering great benefits, competitive market salaries and opportunities for continuous learning,” Norris said.
Among other benefits, South Carolina Federal employees are eligible for gym discounts and reimbursement for membership fees, reimbursement for participation in smoking cessation programs and Education Time Off for volunteering at a family member’s school during work hours.
Trident United Way in 2004 recognized the credit union with a Family Friendly Workplace Award.
The institution originated in 1936, when 14 Charleston Naval Shipyard workers each contributed $5 to form a financial cooperative to meet their financial needs.
The credit union today has more than 500 employees and 23 branches throughout Charleston, Columbia, Georgetown, Orangeburg, St. Matthews and Manning.
