Tuomey Healthcare System has tended to the needs of the Sumter community, its patients and staff for more than 100 years.
Tuomey Healthcare has created a positive workplace to care for its employees. Staff have a benefits program, a hospital-funded pension plan, a 33% discount in the hospital cafeteria and opportunities for advancement.
The organization also runs a structured “preceptor program” for new professional clinical staff. Conferences between preceptor and preceptee are conducted on a regular basis to share strengths, weaknesses and expectations.
The health care system is anchored by Tuomey Regional Medical Center, a 301-bed institution accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations that delivers the industry’s most advanced technological care with an even higher level of patient consideration.
Tuomey’s medical staff consists of more than 150 physicians representing more than 25 medical specialties. In the last 10 years, the medical staff has more than tripled, indicative of the institution’s aggressive growth strategy.
Included in the system’s facilities are a 36-bed nursery, expanded intensive care unit, 10 operating suites and a satellite medical park. Tuomey’s diagnostic and treatment capabilities include a medical oncology program, cancer treatment center, cardiac catheterization and updated HiSpeed Computed Tomography.
The system offers subacute-skilled care and home health care and has an outpatient surgery center and two medical office buildings.
