FLORENCE -- The extended public comment period for The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control’s draft air quality construction permit and Preliminary Determination for the proposed Santee Cooper power plant to be built in Kingsburg is scheduled to expire soon. After Jan. 22, DHEC will no longer be take public comment on the highly debated proposed coal-fired power plant. The 600-megawatt coal-fired facility would be located on a 2,709-acre tract along the Great Pee Dee River.
