SOUTH CAROLINA -- The National Association of Foreign-Trade Zones has bestowed U.S. Congressman James E. Clyburn (S.C.-D) with the annual Person of the Year Award.
The award is given annually to a person who has made significant contributions to the promotion and facilitation of international trade. Clyburn was nominated for the award by the South Carolina State Ports Authority and BMW Manufacturing Co. LLC, members of the association.
“The state of South Carolina has become a leader in the use of the U.S. Foreign-Trade Zones Program and Congressman Clyburn had been instrumental in the growth and expansion of the program across the state,” Will Berry, President of the NAFTZ said. “In addition, the congressman has been a strong supporter of a number of initiatives in SC that directly and indirectly support foreign trade and investment.”
Berry said Clyburn’s support included the deepening of the Charleston Harbor channel to facilitate larger container ships and port security projects.
