Staff Report

Coldwell Banker United Realtors has acquired Coldwell Banker Coastal Properties, Mount Pleasant’s first Coldwell Banker franchise in business since July 2003.

According to the local company’s owners, the timing was right to join forces with a broker that could help Coastal Properties rise to the next level.

“Our growth has been rapid, and we knew it was time to find a partner that could help us continue that growth the best way possible,” said Bobby Bryant, who owns Coastal Properties with partners Charles Bell, Andrea Bell and Steve Young.

Edmund H. Monteith Jr., senior vice president for Coldwell Banker United Realtors in South Carolina, said the acquisition is a good fit for the company.

“This partnership will allow the sales associates of Charleston, Summerville and Mount Pleasant to continue in their day-to-day relationships with their communities and their customers that have made them so successful,” Monteith said. “We’ll provide what we believe to be the best tools and support in the real estate industry to help them increase their business.”

President and Chief Operating Officer Jeffrey B. Wheeler said Coldwell Banker United Realtors and Coastal Properties share the common goal of growing and expanding the Charleston operation.

“Charleston is and has been one of the best housing markets in the Southeast,” Wheeler said.

Jim Gillespie, president and chief executive of Coldwell Banker Real Estate, said consumers in the Charleston area will benefit from the merger.

“Coldwell Banker United Realtors brings a tremendous platform of technology and customer service, and has the reputation for innovation and integrity that customers expect in today’s real estate market,” Gillespie said.

Coldwell Banker United Realtors was founded in 1970 in Texas and has grown to 75 residential and three commercial offices in six states. The company has more than 2,400 sales associates. Coldwell Banker Coastal Properties has 100 sales associates in the Charleston area.
