CHARLESTON -- The Charleston Trident Association of Realtors has established the first endowed professorship for the Carter Center of Real Estate at the College of Charleston. The CTAR gift will be matched by the Carter family of Atlanta, who established the Carter Center of Real Estate in 2006 with a $1million gift. The Carters promised to give the Real Estate Center an additional $500,000 if the college could match that amount with other gifts.

The CTAR board of directors has committed to contributing $25,000 per year for the next five years to support the college’s efforts to educate real estate professionals. Half of the funding will be provided by the Charleston Trident Multiple Listing Service, a wholly owned subsidiary of CTAR, which is also committed to collaborating with the Carter Center through other in-kind services when possible.

The Carter Real Estate Center has recently appointed a director for the center. Tim Allen received his dcotorate in 1992 from the University of Georgia with a major in real estate and minors in economics and finance. He is currently a professor of real estate at Florida Atlantic University where he teaches real estate investment and development; real estate appraisal and real estate finance.

Allen is also the co-author of the text “Real Estate Principals” published by Dearborn Press, which is now in its ninth edition and is the author of almost 60 academic articles in the field.
