GREENVILLE -- Susan Schmidt Bies wants to help Upstate entrepreneurs find capital. Before retiring to Greenville County last year, Bies was one of seven members of the Federal Reserve's Board of Governors in Washington for more than six years. Nominated by the president and confirmed by the Senate, members of the board vote on the federal funds rate target. She's one of about 15 volunteers trying to organize the Upstate's first network of so-called "angel investors" -- individuals willing to invest in startup companies.
