Manufacturer adding jobs in Oconee County

WESTMINSTER -- Sandvik Inc. expects to invest $47.5 million and create 92 new jobs in an expansion of its operation in Oconee County.

“Production efficiency is a key for our long-term success and growth," said Jaime Herrera, general manager of Sandvik’s Westminster facilities. "In order to be able to continuously improve efficiency we need skilled, dedicated, and engaged employees in our County.  We are very pleased with the support that we get from the Oconee County for our business operations and our future development in the County."

From its South Carolina facility, Sandvik Inc. manufactures products and carbide inserts for the metal cutting industry. These products are used in mechanical engineering, automotive, oil and gas, and aerospace applications.

“Sandvik is a high-tech engineering group manufacturing advanced products throughout the world. The company’s decision to expand here is testament that the state’s business-friendly climate and skilled workforce are working to grow existing industries and attract investments that will positively impact the state and local economy with new jobs,” said Secretary of Commerce Joe Taylor. "Thanks to the team efforts of state and local officials, this investment will benefit Oconee County now and in the years ahead."

Oconee County Council Chairman George Blanchard said the county was pleased to hear of Sandvik's announcement.

"Sandvik is an example of a company working in partnership with Oconee County to not only provide job opportunities, but also act as a vital member of the business community,” Blanchard said.

Sandvik is a high-technology, engineering group that works in tooling, Sandvik Mining and Construction and Sandvik Materials Technology.

Sandvik currently employs 342 employees at its Westminster facility. The parent company, Sandvik AB is headquartered in Sweden with worldwide business activities conducted through representation in 130 countries.  The company has 47,000 employees and annual sales of approximately $14 billion.
