ESOL teacher, Charleston County School District

Chris Hagy hopes to one day work himself out of a job. As an English for Speakers of Other Languages teacher, Hagy serves the linguistic, academic, social and cultural needs of students who enter the Charleston County school system with limited English proficiency.

Hagy started teaching with the intent to work for a year as a way to give back to the community before pursuing an MBA. He enjoyed teaching so much he instead decided to pursue an advanced degree in education and ended up attending the Harvard University Graduate School of Education.

In his daily work, Hagy is living out some valuable career advice: “Find a wrong in the world and do your best to right it, never forgetting to find joy in that struggle.”
